Third grade students at the Galion Intermediate School will bring history to life Thursday, May 19. The annual Third Grade Wax Museum of Famous People will feature 141 third grade students portraying a famous person of their choosing.

Students have been working on their projects for the last 4-6 weeks. TThird-grade teachers encouraged students to involve parents and family in selecting a famous, deceased person who has made a significantly positive contribution to society.

“Projects are most meaningful and enriching when a chosen subject is of interest to the family,” third grade teacher Kim Chandler said. “Many students look forward to Wax Museum because siblings, and even parents, have participated in the project as third graders.”

For 20-plus years, the Wax Museum has provided students with the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills learned throughout third grade. The LEAD21 program has an entire unit focused on “heroes”.

“Our science curriculum includes a focus on scientists, inventors, and careers in science and technology,” Chandler said. “Students must use research skills to create a keynote presentation on their iPad.”

This year’s Wax Museum of Famous People will be on display from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Galion Intermediate School. Please contact Kim Chandler at 419-468-3676 with questions or for more information.
