Bucyrus Schools and Children’s Hunger Alliance Partnership is strong

Over the past several years, the Bucyrus City School District Food Services department and Children’s Hunger Alliance have worked together to help feed hungry children in Bucyrus and Crawford County. The partnership between the two organizations took another step forward when Children’s Hunger Alliance awarded a grant to the Bucyrus City School District.

Through a Walmart State Foundation Grant, Children’s Hunger Alliance is awarding the Bucyrus City School District with a breakfast vending machine at Bucyrus High School. The goal of the vending machine, which is valued at over $15,000, is to help increase school breakfast participation.

“In addition to the vending machine, we also purchased the school district a new smoothie machine,” Children’s Hunger Alliance representative Whitney Gherman said. “The goal of this machine is to improve the quality of meals served by allowing the students to enjoy a beverage blended with fresh fruit, yogurt, and/or dairy.”

Children’s Hunger Alliance is pleased to provide support to the Bucyrus City School District, and its staff, for their dedication to ensuring more students start their day with a nutritious meal. A good breakfast sets the stage in a positive way for all students to learn.

“Whitney and the entire Children’s Hunger Alliance staff are incredibly supportive of all our programs to help provide nutritious meals to our students,” Food Services Manager Lorie Pennington said. “As state and federal guidelines become more stringent, it’s a blessing to have an organization ready to help us accomplish our mission. Thank you, Children’s Hunger Alliance.”
