High bond continued for teen accused of assaulting officers

A $500,000 bond was continued in Crawford County Common Pleas Court when an 18-year-old man pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Monday to several charges.

Natavis J. Briggs, Mansfield, is accused of assaulting multiple corrections officers while incarcerated at the Crawford County Justice Center. He is charged with one count of felonious assault on a peace officer, a first-degree felony, assault on a police officer, a fourth-degree felony, assault on a corrections officer, a fifth-degree felony, and one misdemeanor count of assault.

On April 28, Briggs was being processed into the jail when he became confrontational with corrections officers and a fight ensued. One officer sustained a concussion along with nerve damage to his neck, as a second officer was bitten on the arm by Briggs and a third officer sustained injuries to his hand and ribs. Officers had to use a taser to detain Briggs.

In other court business, a phone call from a child stating his parents are using heroin in his home has resulted in charges for Brian D. Javens and Rachel K. Merritt.

Both are charged with possession of drugs, fifth-degree felonies, along with misdemeanor charges of possession of drugs and drug abuse instruments and endangering children. Bond was set at $150,000 for each.

Justin R. Testement, 26, and his mother, Sherry A. Stark, 46, both of Crestline, pleaded not guilty to drug-related charges.

Stark is charged with trafficking in drugs while Testement is charged with possession of drugs, both fifth-degree felonies. Bond was set at $75,000 for each at their arraignment.

Others arraigned include:

Aaron A. Keister, 36, Crestline, burglary, a second-degree felony, two counts of possession of drugs, both fifth-degree felonies, having weapons under disability, a third-degree felony, and misdemeanor possession of drug abuse instruments, bond set at $350,000.

Brittany Pratt-Witten, 26, Bucyrus, illegal conveyance of a controlled substance into a detention facility and drug trafficking, both third-degree felonies, bond set at $250,000.

Shanna J. Boggs, 38, Crestline, tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, and misdemeanor possession of drug abuse instruments, bond set at $150,000.

Jamie L. Cline, 27, Mount Gilead, possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, bond set at $150,000.

Christina M. Zornes, 22, Bucyrus, tampering with evidence and illegal conveyance of a controlled substance into a detention facility a third-degree felony, both third-degree felonies, and possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, bond set at $150,000.

Jeremy R. Woods, 34, Orrville, driving under the influence, a fourth-degree felony, bond set at $100,000.

Joshua T. Zarcone, 27, Bucyrus, drug trafficking, a fifth-degree felony, bond set at $100,000.

Tristan K. Pival, 32, Bucyrus, receiving stolen property, a fifth-degree felony, personal recognizance bond.
