Polk Township discuss zoning permits

The monthly meeting of the Polk Township trustees was held recently at the Township Hall on State Route 309 east of Galion. Pat Rondon, Fiscal Officer, was present along with trustees Tom Ray, Glenn Cheesman, and Russ Sellman.

Up for discussion were the recent zoning permits issued for culvert work, housing and building additions, driveways, and property use. After last month’s approval, Jette Cander, Zoning Inspector, will now be issuing a bright color-coded paper signs to accompany each permit. Yellow will represent all types of building permits, and orange will indicate a variance permit to modify the use of a property. These signs must be posted in a location clearly visible from the road where it can be easily identified and accessed by zoning and township authorities with minimal or no disturbance to the resident.

The Galion Fire Department and EMS provided their monthly report for review by the trustees. The information included an overall annual account of the number of runs made by each department plus the monthly totals of runs thus far for 2016.

Communication from the Ohio Department of Transportation informed trustees of an upcoming road closing in the near future for repairs on state Route 19 at Iberia Road.

In addition, an affirmative vote by the trustees was also confirmed for the repair of the south end of Iberia Road from Monnett-New Winchester Road to County Line Road in preparation for the tar and chip work to be completed this summer.

An announcement was noted that the summer picnic for the Crawford County Township Association members is to be held June 29, at the Polk Township Hall/Event Center at 7680 State Route 309, Galion.

The Polk Township Hall/Event Center is available for rental year round for parties, large meetings, weddings, reunions, showers, etc. More information is available by calling Pat Rondon at 419-468-3888 or visiting the website, Polktwp.net.
