Galion an option for Tim Hortons

The company that plans to open a Tim Hortons coffee and bake shop in Bucyrus is considering to bring the same eatery to Galion.

“It is an option but we have yet to secure (or) decide on a location or commit to building there,” Don Reninger, president of RSSUM Holdings LLC, said in an email Wednesday.

The company has finalized its plans to place a Tim Hortons across from the Mayor’s office, 500 S. Sandusky Ave., in Bucyrus. Mayor Jeff Reser said the company approached the city with the proposal to bring the eatery to Bucyrus about eight years ago but backed off when the Great Recession swept the nation.

Reser reached out to the company last year to resume talks about the proposal again.

“They’re ready to go,” he said.

The company’s proposals have been finalized with Bucyrus’ planning commission and zoning panel about two weeks ago, Reser said. The company took ownership of a vacant lot and three homes that will be demolished to pave way for the Tim Hortons. The plan is to have an entrance for both Sandusky and Poplar streets.

“We’re really excited to have them,” Reser said. “I know they were also looking in Galion.”

Other nearby communities under consideration were Ashland and Fostoria, he added.

Galion Communications Director Matt Echelberry said no company has submitted anything official to the city about building a Tim Hortons in Galion, but he was not sure if there have been prior informal discussions.

“Never say never,” he added.

Reser said the Tim Hortons would be a great fit for Bucyrus.

“And Galion if you get one,” he added.
