Buckeye Central student dies

Buckeye Central Local Schools canceled sporting events Tuesday after a student had reportedly taken his own life at his home.

The Bucks and Buckettes baseball and softball games agains Seneca East were postponed, while the track team didn’t compete against Ridgedale.

Crisis counselors, school counselors and social workers were on hand for students Wednesday..

The student appeared to had a self-inflicted wound, New Washington police reportedly said.

Crawford County has a suicide rate of 11.8 per every 100,000 persons that is slightly higher than the national average, according to Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation.

About 88.2 percent of suicides are male, while the 85-and-up age group has the highest rate.

The county ranks 35 out of 88 Ohio counties with the highest suicide rate.
