GALION — This community’s Come Home to Galion celebration on Dec. 2 was a topic of conversation at Tuesday’s regular city council meeting. Representatives of Friends of the Depot shared with council members information about their upcoming Breakfast with Santa event that day. There will be two sessions that morning due to the limited space inside the Depot Pavilion. Tickets are $5 and available for purchase at the Galion Crestline Chamber of Commerce Office on Harding Way West in Galion.

Mayor Tom O’Leary spoke to council for a few moments to sum up the tornado damage. He said three businesses that sustained major damage in the storm were given the opportunity to use the building owned by the city on South Street as a storage facility or work space if needed.

He also explained there would be no EMA funds available to the city to recoup the cost of repairs that had to be made due to the storm. While the damage was severe in many cases, a large number of homeowners with damage are covered by insurance, he said. If the number of those with damage had not been insured, Galion would have been eligible to receive aid from the EMA.

Also, Ordinance 2017-63, legislation pertains to a grant regularly applied for and received by Galion for providing assistance to local victims of crime, received a first reading. . The ordinance was moved by members of council to be read as a final reading and then approved by 6-0 vote.

Ordinance 2017-64 also received a first reading. It listed various year-end accounting measures, including paying out $30,000 from unappropriated funds to cover the unexpected expenses to outside sources to get the city back in working order after the tornado.
