Galion PTO donates $20,000 to district

GALION — The Galion school board accepted several large donations at Monday’s regular school board meeting, including one from an Eagle Scout candidate.

Galion High School senior Jeran Pfeifer, a member of Boy Scout Troop 304 in Galion, made the official donation of eight eight benches he built for the high school soccer teams. The benches are part of his Eagle Scout project.

“This is just the latest project completed by Boy Scout Troop 304 that benefits Galion City Schools,” said Galion Superintendent Jim Grubbs. “Jeran is an outstanding young man, and I wish him all the best during his senior year and in his pursuit of earning his Eagle Scout badge.”

Past projects completed by members of Troop 304 have included the Nature Trail behind the Primary School and a bridge to expand the Nature Trail.

Another donation accepted was for $20,000 from the Galion Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). The money will be used toward permanent improvements at the Primary and Intermediate schools.

“We are very grateful for our Elementary PTO and the work they do to extend the learning environment for our students,” Grubbs said. “The funds donated by the PTO will be used for the benefit of current and future Galion students.”

Also on Monday, school board members discussed the bus routes for the 2017-2018 school year.

Families with students who ride the bus were able to access the bus routes during the Open House on Aug. 17.

Monday, Aug. 21 is the first day of school for Galion students.

Families can also contact their student’s respective school building, or they can call the Transportation Department at 419-468-3432 ext. 12006, for bus route information.

The next school board meeting is Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the computer lab at Galion Middle School.
