SOLAR ECLIPSE SAFETY PROGRAM — On July 29 ,8 p.m. at Lowe-Volk Park. The Crawford Park District wants to help you view the solar eclipse safely. Come to receive your pair of solar safety glasses for the Aug. 21 Solar Eclipse. Stay for the Night Sky Program.

VIEWING THE NIGHT SKY PROGRAM — On July 29 at 9 p.m. at Lowe-Volk Park, join members of the Lowe-Volk Astronomy Club as they share their knowledge and telescope skills. with all who are interested in the celestial sights. Sky targets for the summer include our largest planets, Jupiter and Saturn. Bring your own telescope or allow the volunteers to assist you with those provided.

NATURE HIKE AT HUNGER PARK — On July 30, at 2 p.m. at Unger Park Unger Park, 1303, meet Crawford Park District Naturalist, Warren Uxley for a nature hike at Unger Park. Late July brings many subtle but important changes in the natural world. Birds have stopped singing but the insects take their place, and the grassland comes alive with color.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY — The monthly meeting of the Friends of the Galion Public Library is 9 a.m. August 1 in the Community Room of the Library at 123 N. Market St. All members are welcome.

FAMILY TENT CAMPING

— Starting at 7 p.m., at Lowe-Volk Park, join the Crawford Park District for some camping. Come any time after 5 p.m. to set up your tent around the pond. Registration will begin at 7 p.m., with programs starting at 7:30. Bring a treat or a dish to share with other campers. Yard games, fishing, campfire, a woodland night hike, and more are on the agenda. Breakfast will be provided on Saturday morning. Call 419-683-9000 to reserve your spot.

ICE CREAM FESTIVAL — The Ontario United Methodist Church, 3540 Park Avenue West, will have an ice cream festival from 4-7 p.m. This will be the 100th year anniversary of the festival.

Aug. 6

SALEM CEMETERY PRAIRIE PROGRAM — At 2 p.m., meet Warren Uxley at Salem Cemetery, at the intersection of Lower Leesville and Parcher roads for this program on prairies. Renowned for its brilliant displays of butterfly milkweed, the prairie remnant at the Salem Cemetery is in its 10th year of restoration. This program will look at the many rewards and challenges involved with restoring a prairie remnant. Call 419-683-9000 for information.

TODDLER TROT — Meet at Unger Park at 5:30 p.m. Getting children outside has many benefits, from an environmental awareness to better health. Join Josh Dyer and his dog McKinley fora stroll through Unger’s prairie to explore the trails and pond. For kids not quite in school and younger. Call 419-683-9000 for information.

DAUGHTERS OF AMERICAN REVOLUTION SOCIAL — The Olentangy chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution will hold a social get-together Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. at Galion Public Library. Members and guests are invited to attend this time of re-connecting with a musical program of patriotic songs by Charlie Coleman. Light refreshments will be served. The meeting is open to the public.
