Crawford SWCD announces Neighbor to Neighbor Conservation Series

BUCYRUS — Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting a workshop series to highlight some unique operations around our county in the Conservation and agriculture fields. Participate in one, or all, of the workshops. Each evening will begin at the farm/residence and last no more than two hours. Each will offer information, a tour, and chance for questions and answers.

The Buzz on Bees is Tuesday, Aug. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at 2767 Brokensword Road in Bucyrus. The Miller family will discuss their current 30 hive honey bee operation. Participants can learn about basic bee keeping, exploring a hive, honey extraction, bottling and get a chance to tour the honey kitchen. There also will be an opportunity to purchase their honey products.

The Edible Landscapes program is Tuesday, Sept.19 at 6:30 p.m. at 2255 Shafer Road in Bucyrus. Bruce and Joyce Clinger will sharing information about their edible landscape and small space gardening. Participants can tour the farm and see how they provide fresh, organic small fruits and vegetables. There will be an opportunity to purchase their produce.

A Small Scale Livestock Production program is Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at 980 Brokensword Road in Sycamore. Mike and Angie Hall will share tips on successfully raising livestock on a small scale. Their farm base is on pastured, grass-fed livestock, consisting of meat goats, poultry and swine. Learn how to raise livestock on small acreage that is affordable and delicious.
