Galion students celebrate Right to Read Week

GALION — A recent Right to Read week at Galion Intermediate School included a lot of history.

Students and staff focused their efforts May 8-12 on historical fiction, specifically the book “Sarah Plain And Tall” by Patricia McLachlan. A trivia contest was based on thebook and students were able to win books. .

On Monday the week kicked off with a visit from Josh Dyer of the Crawford Park District who portrayed Johnny Appleseed.

On Tuesday, local author Paul Lintern visited and shared items about his historical fiction series “Richland Chronicles,” that he has written based on a family in this area. Paul’s visit started with a broadcast to WMAN at 8:30 for his “Where’s Paul? ” segment. He also had breakout sessions for each grade level and at 6 p.m. held a program for the public.

Wednesday and Thursday included pioneer games on the stage . See handout for more information.

On Friday, students and staff dressed as pioneers.
