GALION — Each year, the Galion Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization organizes and hosts a Field Day for students in both the Galion Primary and Intermediate Schools.

This year’s events were Thursday and Friday. Primary school students took Thursday to enjoy the day. Galion Intermediate School students celebrated the end of the year on Friday.

Field Day is designed to be a day of fun and relaxation for both students and teachers.

Students participated in many activities. Elementary school physical education teacher Matt Tyrell worked with the PTO to develop the Field Day activities.

“Field Day is a long-standing tradition of fun and friendly competition in our Elementary Schools,” said Elementary PTO Treasurer Bryan Summer. “Mr. Tyrell does a fantastic job developing games and activities to help achieve the goal of allowing students and staff the opportunity to unwind after a long, successful school year.”

Some of the activities for primary school students included sack races , sponge races, face painting, golf ball spoon races and inflatable bounce houses.

Students at the Intermediate School enjoyed tricycle races, football-throwing competition, basketball games, corn hole and bocce ball just to name a few.

“The Galion Elementary PTO does a great job supporting the educational programs at both the intermediate and primary schools,” said Superintendent Jim Grubbs . “We are grateful for the PTO, and hope our students and staff enjoyed a well-deserved day of fun and excitement.”
