Local chapter of Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War

GALION — The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Tent 91, Galion, met for it’s regular meeting Sept. 7 at the home of Lois Rinehart. The meeting was conducted in regular form by President Cathy Brown.

Communications included a thank you from the Ohio Veterans Home for donations made and “The Veteran” newsletter from the Veterans Home.

Relief report included: one flower for deceased, 15 personal visits, 94 cheer cards sent and 123 volunteer hours served.

The head stone of another veteran at Fairview Cemetery has been reset. Three Ohio Flags have been ordered to be presented at later dates.

Final plans were made for the Ohio District Meeting on Sept. 24, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Tent 91 is hosting this event.

A mystery gift was won by Melanie Baker. The next meeting is Oct. 5 at the home of Marilyn Sipes.

The Olentangy Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution

GALION — The Olentangy Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution held its first meeting after the summer recess Sept. 8 at Galion Public Library. DAR Northwest District Director Nancy Keller Davis was a special guest. Laverne Piatt conducted an Installation of Officers recognizing Pat Ellis, Registrar; Jill Dixon, Treasurer and Carol Speece, Regent. The program was “The History of Seccaium Park” presented by Ed and Dee Ann Speece of Bucyrus.

A Prospective Member Workshop, sponsored by the Olentangy Chapter DAR, will be held at the Galion Library Oct. 13 from 12:30- 1:15 p.m. and 3:15-4:00 p.m. Any woman at least 18 years of age interested in tracing your ancestry back to a Revolutionary patriot is welcome to attend this workshop.

Leesville Grange 2078/Crawford County Pomona Grange 36

BUCYRUS Leesville Grange 2078/Crawford County Pomona Grange 36 met Sept. 18 for their annual Grange membership picnic. Chaplain Dorothy Eckert offered prayer before the meal. Master/President Donald Graf presided over the meeting. The charter was draped in memory of Harold Eckert and past County Deputy Larry McKinnis.

The Legislative report was Don Graf and Kathie Burkman will be delegates to the Ohio State Grange Convention and serving on the Grange Activities committee. Resolutions were discussed that are being submitted.

The Family Activities Chairperson reported on quilt raffle drawings, National Grange quilt block designs for 2016 and 2017 for junior and subordinate members. The Deaf Activities Chairman reported on an article about cardiovascular health affects hearing. Also mentioned that Campbell Soup label program finished the end of August. Community Services Chairman thanked all members for bringing food items for Crestline Food Pantry. Hats and gloves are to be brought to the next meeting for the Ohio School for the Deaf.

The Leesville and Pomona Grange notebooks were sent in to the Community Service, Lecturer and Deaf Activities Directors. Also sent in were the Grange quarterly report and report of officers and chairpersons for 2016-2017 for Leesville Grange and Crawford County Pomona Grange. Monetary donation was given to Friendly Hills Camp in memory of Harold Eckert and Larry McKinnis.

Renewal forms for the Grange Magazine on the back of the September/October issue must be sent back to the Ohio State Grange Office by Oct. 31.

The next regular meeting is Oct. 4 at 6;30 p.m. at the Jefferson Twp. Fire Department and will include a potluck meal and planning of the new Grange year.
