CRESTLINE — To prepare for the official grand opening of Avita Ontario Hospital in February 2017, Avita Health System finalized the purchase of two Crestline properties earlier this week: the former Geyer’s grocery store and the Geyer’s professional building at 385 N. Seltzer Street.

Plans for the former Geyer’s grocery store include renovations for a centralized distribution center supporting all three Avita hospitals (Galion Hospital, Bucyrus Hospital, Ontario Hospital) and outlying Avita clinics.

“Crestline is centrally located within Avita which made the Geyer’s building ideal to house and distribute our supplies,” comments Jerry Morasko, President and CEO of Avita Health System.

The new distribution center will allow Avita to become more efficient in providing supplies to each location. Avita currently has more than 30 locations.

“Local and streamlined access to supplies is critical for the success of our hospitals,” Morasko said. “With the addition of Ontario Hospital, we will be in bigger need of supplies for hospital areas such as inpatient, surgery, and cardiology.”

Current tenants at the 385 N. Seltzer Street property (also known as the Geyer’s mini-mall) will remain. Avita physical and occupational therapy as well as the following Avita medical providers: Dr. Andrew Lee (Internal Medicine/Pediatrics), Jenna Miller, CNP (Family Medicine), and Dr. Terry Walker (Optometry). Expansion plans at this facility include renovating space for information technology and supply chain offices as well as training centers.

Avita’s Crestline expansion will not affect the operations of Avita’s other Crestline facilities, including the former Crestline Hospital building which houses nearly 115 employees. Nor will it affect the primary care office of Dr. Sarah Metzger and Wendy Kerr, CNP, who will continue practicing out of their current, neighboring location at 330 N. Seltzer Street.

Approximately 20 employees will initially be relocated to Crestline to support Avita’s new facilities. Avita anticipates this number will grow throughout the renovation process.
