Immunization clinics offered for Galion seventh and 12th graders

0

Beginning with the 2016-17 school year, immunization requirements for students in seventh and 12th grade are changing. There will now be an additional requirement of the meningococcal (meningitis) vaccine.

Students entering the seventh grade have been required to have a Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis), and are now also required to have a meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine. Students entering the 12th grade are now being required to have a meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine. Students will be excluded from school if these requirements are not met (unless a Galion City Schools Immunization Exemption Form is filled out and on file).

In order to assist with fulfilling this new requirement, the Galion City Health Department is offering 2 school based clinics at the health department, 113 Harding Way E., on the Galion City Schools early release Wednesdays in May:

*May 4 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. by appointment

*May 18 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. by appointment

These clinics are specifically for the adolescent shots only. While the HPV vaccine is not required for school at this time, it will also be available if any student wants to start or continue the series. Parents/guardians must accompany their student for consent/insurance/payment information, and in the event of a reaction/emergency.

Call the Galion City Health Department at 419-468-1075 and have insurance information ready in order to schedule an appointment or to have questions answered.

It is also encouraged to go to the GCHD website, www.galionhealth.org, download the “Screening Form” and fill it out in advance to expedite the appointment. Information about the 2016-17 school vaccine requirements is posted on the Galion City Schools website under the “Forms/Links” tab. Specific vaccine information statements and the GCHD “Screening Form” are also available in the Middle and High School offices.
