When Kendra Kocher found out that her friend’s husband had cancer, she wanted to do something to help so she set about organizing a benefit with the assistance of a few of her friends.

“I am friends with Kevin’s wife, Kathy Stowers, and was so heartbroken for her and Kevin when he was diagnosed with metastatic pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer,” said Kocher on Tuesday evening.

Kocher said the Stowers’ have two children and three grandchildren.

“Kathy works for a physician at Galion Community Hospital and Kevin is an employee at Richland Correctional Institute. He has not been able to work for several months because of the cancer and treatment he is receiving,” Kocher said.

The benefit for Kevin Stowers will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday at Suburban Lanes and will feature an auction, spaghetti supper, cash bar, bowling, gun raffle, 50/50 drawing, music and fun. Kocher is hosting the event along with friends, Shanna Fetters and Kali Heydinger.

The auction includes items such as an autographed Brooks and Dunn jacket and custom-made T-Shirts in honor of Kevin Stowers.

Kocher said proceeds from the benefit will go towards medical expenses not covered by insurance. A fund has been set up at First Merit bank also under the name, Kevin Stowers Fund.
