Northmor grad takes 1st at Big E
Over the weekend, 2022-23 senior Jed Adams, our former Northmor FFA president, competed in the Prepared Public Speaking CDE at the Big E (Eastern States Exposition). The Big E is an invitation only event in which speakers and other CDE participants from eastern states, as well as a few midwestern states, are invited to compete against some of the best speakers in the region.

‘Ready For Hire’ to continue
Last June, the Ohio Department of Education selected and awarded $89 million in Summer Learning and Afterschool Opportunities Grants to 161 community-based partners out of more than 700 applications from across the state. Locally, $1.9 million was awarded in two grants to Succeed, Prosper, Ashland, Richland, Crawford (SPARC ) Council, one to create summer programming in summer 2022, 2023, and 2024, and one to create after-school programming, with fiscal oversight from Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center.
Galion City Schools awarded grants for ROAR Program
Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center, in conjunction with Galion City Schools, was awarded a continuation of both 21st Century Community Learning Center grants which fund the ROAR before and after-school program, totaling $500,000.
School district updated on buildings, grounds
During its regular meeting on Aug. 15, the Galion City Schools Board of Education was presented with a buidlings and grounds update by Building, Grounds, and Transportation Director Brian Owens.
MOESC hosts teacher boot camps
This summer, educators from districts in Crawford, Morrow County, and Richland counties had the opportunity to participate in the first Teacher Business Boot Camps. Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center (MOESC)’s Business Advisory Council and economic development and Chamber of Commerce partners in each county organized these programs to show teachers what goes on behind the scenes in manufacturing in each county through tours of local manufacturing facilities.
New Galion City Schools superintendent settling in
With the first day of school on the horizon, the Galion City School District (GCSD) is welcoming a new superintendent. Dr. Jeffrey Hartmann, who was notified of his hire in May, officially assumed the role on Aug. 1 following the resignation of former Superintendent Jennifer Allerding.
