Galion resident reaches milestone

GALION — Walking into Magnolia Terrace, visitors are likely to find Gina Jaquillard doing what she loves to do still to this day, even at the age of 100 — coloring a picture. It’s something she enjoys doing often, and she’s very good at it.

“She was an avid painter. She has filled her family’s homes with her artwork,” said Kelli Chartier, director at Magnolia. “Here at the facility, she loves to color in adult coloring books, and she enjoys reading.”

Jaquillard recently hit the century mark, something not many people get to achieve. According to Boston University, just one in every 5,000 people make it to 100 years old.

Jaquillard is still a delightful person to be around and is well-liked by the folks at Magnolia. Once a month, her daughter comes to the facility and makes scrapbooking greeting cards with the residents, and Jaquillard always enjoys sharing the craft with her fellow friend, too.

Jaquillard is from Van Buren, Indiana, where she was born on May 13, 1923. She then retired to Arizona for 40 years after she finished her work life. Within the last five years, Jaquillard moved to Galion with her daughter.

Jaquillard is a high school graduate and even attended business school for a while. She was married to Wesley Jaquillard for over 40 years, and they had two daughters. Five grandchildren call Jaquillard their grandmother.

When talking to Jaquillard, people immediately feel her charm. She’s a sweet lady who keeps a smile on her face and interacts very well. Age has had no barrier to her delightful personality.

“Gina always has a wonderful attitude on life and has a heartwarming smile that will make your day,” said Chartier.
