Galion takes down Clear Fork, falls to Shelby

GALION — Galion hosted Clear Fork on Tuesday, April 25, in a tennis match that Galion won, 5-0. Through two matches this season, the Tigers have outscored the Colts 10-0.

Nate Barre won against Griffen Blakely, 5-7, 6-2, 10-7, to give Galion a singles victory. Hayden Kaple won his singles match against Clear Fork’s Zachery Hotz, 6-4, 6-3. To cap off the singles matches, Jack Rinehart was victorious over Fisher McLaughlin, 6-1, 6-1.

The first doubles match started out pretty competitive with Nick McMullen and Cooper Kent downing Josiah Bailey and Elaine Gandee, 6-3. The duo took complete control in winning the second set 6-0.

Luke Tinnermeier and Jack Johnson took the second doubles match against Michael Tokar and Evan Picchioni, 6-3, 6-1.

Last Thursday, the Tigers fell to the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference second place team Shelby in their first matchup of the season. The Whippets defeated Galion, 4-1, and moved to 11-2 on the season.

Ben Rinehart lost to Shelby’s Jacob Williams, 6-1, 6-1, to start out the singles matches. In the second singles match, Jack Rinehart fell to Jared Billheimer, 6-0, 6-0. The Tigers had to forfeit the third singles match due to medical.

In the doubles match, Mcmullen and Kent fell to Ty Keinath and Bryson Baker 7-5, 6-2, 6-0. In the second doubles match Galion was able to win as Kaple and Barre got the win against Ben Wilkens and Michael Vogt 6-3, 4-6, and super tie 16-14.

Galion is now 6-6 overall on the season and 3-6 in MOAC action. The Tigers have matches with Ontario and Upper Sandusky next week before the MOAC Tournament begins on May 4 at Lakewood Racquet Club in Lexington.
