Eagles soar to win in final game of 2017

UPPER SANDUSKY — The Colonel Crawford Eagles football squad traveled to Upper Sandusky on a cold, rainy Friday night for their final game of their 2017 campaign.

Although it was not the result they may have been hoping for this season, the Eagles defeated the Rams by a final tally of 34-14. The win put Crawford at 5-5 overall on the year and 3-4 in the Northern-10 Athletic Conference. Upper dropped to 3-7 overall with the loss and 2-5 in conference play. The Eagles will finish in fifth in the N-10 and the Rams, sixth.

Crawford ran out to an early 19-0 lead after one quarter of play and would proceed to outscore the hosting Rams 15-14 in the second to wrap the scoring on the evening and earn the win; 34-14.

Hayden Bute had quite the game for the visitors. Bute would complete just 9/19 pass attempts but racked up 206 yards and a touchdown in the process Bute would also run the ball 21 times for 82 yards, earning two touchdowns and a successful two-point conversion attempt. For the season, Hayden finishes 74/144 passing for 1,165 yards, 11 TD and five interceptions to finish in the top-five in the N-10.

Bute’s primary target on Friday was Kaleb Landin. Landin snagged four catches on the night for 104 yards and a TD. Landin concludes the year with 31 catches for 672 yards and eight touchdowns to finish within the top-five of the conference.

Trevor Shawber would finish off his career at Colonel Crawford with 30 rushing attempts amounting to 160 yards and two touchdowns. For the season, Shawber carried the ball 210 times equating to 1,645 yards and 25 touchdowns, leading the N-10.

Other offensive statistics for the Eagles were: Team- 223 rushing yards (4 TD), 206 receiving yards (1 TD) for 429 total yards (5 TD); Dylan Knisley- 1 carry, 1 yard; Clint Erwin- 2 carries, -20 yards; Shawber- 1 catch, 47 yards; Cameron Smith- 2 catches, 36 yards; Kyle Shope- 1 catch, 10 yards; Owin Seevers- 1 catch, 9 yards and Spencer Mutchler- 2/3 PAT.

The Colonel Crawford defense allowed the Upper offense just 190 yards of total offense (176 rushing, 14 receiving, TD, 3 TO). Landin would record an interception on the evening for the visiting Eagles.

Other N-10 scores on Friday were: Conference champions and undefeated within the N-10 for the fourth year running Wynford Royals (8-2, 7-0) 29, Buckeye Central (0-10, 0-7) 8; Seneca East (8-1, 6-1) 42, Carey (7-3, 4-3) 13; Mohawk (8-2, 5-2) 44, Edon 14 and Bucyrus (2-8, 1-6) 46, Crestline (5-5) 18.
