Kyle Solomon has opened Olivewood Dance Instruction in his hometown

GALION — Kyle Solomon is another recent example of a former Galion resident bringing his passion back to his hometown.

Solomon, a 2012 Galion High School graduate, grew up participating in square dance lessons and other events at Malabar Farm. When he left for college at the University of Toledo after graduation, he planned to major in civil engineering. Then as a sophomore, he changed his direction toward accounting.

During that time, he took an elective dance class. And that class took his life in a direction he never anticipated.

He has opened his own studio in uptown Galion, called Olivewood Dance Studio.

Kyle spent two years competing for the University of Toledo, then qualified as an amatuer for the USA Dance circuit national competition. From there he went on to teach lessons at the Ballroom Company, in the Maumee area outside of Toledo.

Now Solomon has returned home to Galion and is looking to bring his love of dance to others in and around the area.

He is currently renting the banquet room at the Galion Elks as a studio for lessons.

Solomon has also used his connections to Kingwood Center in Mansfield to offer ballroom lessons in the Kingwood mansion this past May, and again in August.

Currently, he is looking ahead.

“Fall and Winter seasons are our busiest months of the year,” he said.

Ballroom lessons are held on Monday evenings, while Tuesday evenings are line-dancing lessons. Solomon also offers private lessons for anyone not comfortable in a group setting.

Group lesson prices are $12 per week — or $36 for an entire month — and can be purchased online.
