SHELBY — Galion’s 11U all-star team won a slugfest Saturday in their tournament opener vs. Shelby

A two-run homer by Carson Frankhouse in the bottom of the sixth won the game for the locals.

The final score? Galion 17, Shelby 16.

Galion rallied for five runs in their final at-bat to pick up the win.

“Great game tonight by two really good-hitting ball teams,” said Galion coach Tim Keller. “Our kids never got down after being down by eight runs in the third inning. They tied it at 11 in the fourth inning, but got down four again in the top of the sixth.”

Shelby jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

But Galion cut the lead to 3-1 when Trevor Vogt walked and eventually came home on a passed ball.

The locals tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second inning to make it 3-3. Frankhouse singled, followed by a single by Carter Weaver, followed by two more walks. Vogt picked up an RBI with a walk and Derek Prosser got an RBI with a ground ball to the right side of the infield.

“Overall we had really good pitching,” Weaver said. “Carter Weaver got the start and then Carson Frankhouse and Trevor Vogt came in after that. To top it off,Holden Hunter comes in with two outs and Shelby had bases loaded in the top of the sixth and gets a three-pitch strikeout. We need to get our defense shored up and we will fine.”

In the top of the third, Shelby parlayed three doubles, three walks and a single into eight runs, stretching its lead to 11-3.

But Galion was undaunted by the big deficit.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Galion took advantage of eight walks en route to their own eight-run rally.

Shelby rallied again in the fifth inning with three more runs. Galion got a single run in the bottom of the inning but Shelby tacked on one more in the sixth to take a 16-12 as Galion started it’s final at-bat.

In that inning, Kael Longwell, Vogt and Prosser reached base and scored. With one out. Holden Hunter reached base and came home on Frankhouse’s homer.
