LEXINGTON — The Division II Region VI track and field meet has now concluded and the Galion Tigers’ squads put together quite an impressive run.

Galion will be sending a total of three relay teams and three individual competitors to Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on Friday June 2 and Saturday June 3. Also on Saturday, qualifiers broke five school records in their respective events.

Colin McCullough will be one of the athletes competing next weekend and will be doing so in four events.

On an individual level, McCullough finished first in the 300-meter hurdles while breaking his own school record with a time of 38.05. In the 110-hurdles, McCullough set the new school mark with a finishing time of 14.69 which earned him second overall and a trip to state.

McCullough was joined by Harrison Ivy, Caleb Ivy and Takoda Crisman in the 4×200-meter relay as they ran their way to the top-podium spot with a new school record time of 1:28.91. Swap out Caleb Ivy for Colbey Fox and that made the Galion 4×400-relay team that finished as the runner-up in the event to qualify for state and set the new school record at 3:21.15.

Harrison Ivy wasn’t quite finished as he made it three for three in his events. Harrison will be headed to the state meet on an individual level after snagging fourth place in the 400-meter dash in a new school record time of 49.78.

Also competing for Galion on Saturday was Brett May in the shot put. May would finish in 10th overall for the Tigers.

Overall, the Galion Tigers boys squad finished tied for second in overall team points with Carroll at 41 points. Lexington won the regional meet on their own track.

The Lady Tigers will have a relay team joining Marisa Gwinner at state next weekend as well.

In the 4×100-meter relay, the Galion group of Jalyn Oswald, Kerrigan Myers, Gwinner and Kylie Redman will conclude their postseason run in Columbus after finishing runner-up in the event with a time of 50.19.

Gwinner was also in action in the long jump on Saturday for Galion but will not be advancing to state after a sixth place finish with a distance of 16’1”. Bri Streib threw 115’ in the discus for the Lady Tigers to earn sixth place in the field.

Galion finished in ninth place out of 39 teams in the field with 26 total team points.

Can’t make it down to Columbus next week to watch the Tigers, Eagles or Golden Knights representatives at the state meet? No worries! I will be live tweeting from the meet on both days to keep everyone informed on the performances of these student athletes!
