Clinger’s Corner: It’s almost over … for this year

0

My first sports year here at the paper is almost in the books!

I want to first and foremost congratulate all of the area student athletes on their performances throughout the fall, winter and spring. What you have accomplished came from hours of hard work, determination and grit and is worthy of more praise then I could possibly give. To the parents, keep on encouraging your children to be whatever it is they want to be. This, of course, goes far beyond the realm of interscholastic competition. Be a role model, be a fan!

Secondly, I want to give a major shout out to all of the Athletic Directors and coaches that have made this first year a bit easier on me. What you do is not overlooked by me. I know that you have other jobs and obligations on your own and I appreciate the help given to me to highlight your teams and your athletes the best that I can.

With the spring sports season almost complete, we will inevitably hit some down time. The track teams from Galion, Colonel Crawford and Northmor have athletes still in the mix for regional and even state titles. Colonel Crawford’s softball team begins their regional gauntlet on Wednesday. No matter the outcome, the high school sports season concludes, at the latest, Saturday June 3. On a positive note, the Galion Graders baseball season begins on Friday June 9 in Newark against the Licking County Settlers. The Graders home opener is the following day against the Grand Lake Mariners. I am excited to bring the readers the most coverage possible, as is my goal for every season.

So, if there is anything going on this summer that you would like to see my bearded face at, just shoot me over an email, find me on Twitter or give me a call! I may not be able to be everywhere at once but I want to highlight as much as I can to keep everyone informed and updated on the sports in the area, all year round.

Find me at a Graders game, at the Pickle Run, wherever because I am always up for good company and conversation! Also, I am always looking for ways to volunteer in the community, just reach out to me!

Looking forward…the Graders regular season concludes on Sunday July 30 at the Xenia Scouts. On Monday July 31, the football teams across Ohio can begin practice. I know how, win or lose, area fans love some football! The cross country, soccer, tennis and volleyball seasons can begin as soon as Tuesday August 1. Golfers, sorry, you have to wait until Friday August 4. Fall coaches…let me know when and where your practices are! My goal for next fall is to be involved even more seems how last year I came around late. That being said, Wednesday August 2 is my one-year mark here at the Galion Inquirer.

Furthermore, coaches again…let me know when your open gyms are, your summer camps and whatever have you! I will put up registration forms, come play some basketball, plug everything on my Twitter account, whatever it takes to get kids involved and enrich the area programs!

Oh yeah, go Red Sox, Aaron Judge is still an animal, someone please beat Golden State, Russell Westbrook for MVP, blah, blah, blah…
