Firefighters began training on Galion’s new aerial fire truck Thursday morning.
“We will continue to train and get more familiar with it on a daily basis.” Galion Fire Department Captain Ric Biglin said. “We need to be prepared to use it. We will train on driving it, setting it up and water flow. It’s not much different from what we have now other than the ladder and stabilizer.”
Galion firefighters are also working on updating the department’s Standard Operating Procedure.
“It’s how we operate our business guideline and rules we follow.” Biglin said. “We have to update them. All fire departments do a design system they follow within the reins of their job duties.”
The truck is slated to be put to work within the next two weeks.
“It’s operational and we are getting really familiar with it today,” Biglin said. “Now if we had to use it, we will be able to by the end of the day.”
