Knights open KMAC play with big home win

GALION — On Friday night, the Northmor Golden Knights opened their Knox-Morrow Athletic Conference season by hosting the Fredericktown Freddies.

The Knights held on to a shut out until the final quarter and improved to 4-0 overall on the season, defeating the Freddies; 41-8.

Northmor got the game started with three touchdowns in the opening quarter.

Meechie Johnson got the ball rolling with a 42-yard touchdown run and Kyle Kegley added the extra-point to put the home team up; 7-0. Conor Becker caught a 65-yard touchdown pass from Meechie, add another Kegley extra-point and Northmor jumped up; 14-0. The final touchdown of the first came once again from Johnson, this time on a 79-yard burst, to put the Knights up 20-0 after Kegley’s PAT was blocked.

In the second, Conan Becker rambled a touchdown from 16-yards out, plus the PAT; 28-0 in favor of the home team. Meechie scored his third rushing touchdown halfway through the second, this time from short-yardage, Kegley adds the extra-point for the Knights to take a 34-point advantage into the locker room.

In the third, Johnson tacked on his fourth rushing touchdown, from 47-yards out, Kegley added the PAT and Northmor headed into the fourth up; 41-0.

Fredericktown finally scored with 4:36 left in the game and converted the two-point conversion to avoid the shutout.

Northmor will hit the road to face the Danville Blue Devils on Friday, September 22.
