Boys basketball: Eagles, Royals win sectionals

The No. 3 seed Colonel Crawford boys basketball team defeated Greenwhich South Central 69-44 in the Division IV sectional finals at Sandusky High School on Friday.

The Eagles had a 39-29 lead over the No. 4 seed Trojans at halftime.

Colonel Crawford made 16 of 20 shots and 10 of 13 free throws, while the Trojans made 12 of 33 shots and 5 of 11 free throws.

The Eagles defeated the Trojans 30-15 in the second half.

Colonel Crawford had 35 rebounds and 12 turnovers, while South Central had 12 rebounds and three turnovers.

Brody Martin led the Eagles with 18 points, while Derek Burkhart added 17 points.

Michael Ponchel led the Trojans with 11 points, while Ben Lamoreaux and Aaron Lamoreaux each added 10 points.

Colonel Crawofrd’s record improve to 16-7.

The Eagles will play No. 1 seed Sandusky St. Mary Central Catholic at Willard High School on Tuesday.

Buckeye Central Bucks, Wynford Royals

The No. 6 seed Wynford boys basketball team defeated No. 5 seed Buckeye Central 67-58 in the Division IV sectional finals at Lexington High School on Friday.

The Royals had a 33-27 lead over the Bucks at halftime.

Wynford made 28 of 58 shots and 6 of 10 free throws, while Buckeye Central made 21 of 58 shots and 12 of 24 free throws.

The Royals defeated the Bucks 34-31 in the second half.

Wynford had 47 rebounds and 15 turnovers, while Buckeye Central had 31 rebounds and nine turnovers.

Alex Crall led the Royals with 16 points, while Braxton Tea added 14 points.

Jacob Shade led the Bucks with game high of 28 points, while Scott Heydinger added 12 points.

Wynford’s record improve to 15-9, while Buckeye Central concludes it season with its record at 17-7.

The Royals will play No. 2 seed Mansfield St. Peter’s at Willard High School on Tuesday.
