Six selected for Galion head football coach interviews

After a public records request by the Inquirer, the city has released the names of the six applicants selected to be chosen from for the Galion Tigers head football coach position.

They include:

• Jim Stoyle of Centerburg is the head football coach and health/physical education teacher at Centerburg High School with 28 years experience in coaching football. He has a master’s degree in sports management from the California University of Pennsylvania.

• Shane E. Patterson of Mount Sterling is the head football coach and special education instructor at Westfall High School. He is a graduate of Urbana University and is now working on a master’s degree at the University of Dayton. He has 20 years experience in coaching football.

• Jeffrey Pharion of Columbus is the head coach of his Alma mater, St. Charles Preparatory. He earned a doctorate in education leadership from Ashland University in 2014. He has 29 years experience in coaching football.

• Robert L. Mahaney of Jeromesville is the head football coach of Mapleton High School in Ashland. He teaches seventh grade social studies at Mapleton Middle School. He earned a degree in education from Ashland University and has eight years experience in football coaching.

• Craig E. Wenning of Minster is the owner of CDW Renovations. He has 13 years experience as a varsity assistant football coach. He earned a degree in industrial technology from Ohio Northern University in 2000.

• Thomas Kaskey of Wheelsburg is a varsity offensive coordinator at Wheelersburg High School. He has 19 years of coaching experience – nine years in football. He earned a degree from Shawnee State University in 2012.

The first round of interviews started Wednesday and will go through Monday. The interview team will select two final candidates that will undergo a second round of interviews. The final candidate will be recommended to the Galion Board of Education at a regular meeting on March 17.

The final candidate will replace Chris Hawkins who took the same position at Ontario High School earlier this year.
