Boys basketball: BC, Wynford advance to sectional finals

The Buckeye Central boys basketball team walked away with a narrow 52-48 victory over Norwalk St. Paul for the Division IV sectional semifinals on Wednesday.

The Bucks had a 21-15 lead over the Flyers at halftime.

Buckeye Central shot 14 of 50 and made 20 of 32 free throws, while St. Paul shot 14 of 47 and made 17 of 19 free throws.

The Bucks lost the second half of the game to the Flyers 33-31 as the latter rallied in the fourth quarter scoring 22 points.

It wasn’t enough to eradicate Buckeye Central’s lead from the first half. The Bucks had 40 rebounds and nine turnovers, while St. Paul had 41 rebounds and 14 turnovers.

Grant Loy led the Bucks with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Max Loy tallied 11.

Logan Moffit led the Flyers with 12 points.

The Bucks improve to 17-6 and will play conference and county rival Wynford for a sectional title at Lexington High School on Friday.

Wynford Royals

The Wynford boys basketball team defeated Mansfield Christian 66-52 in a Division IV sectional semifinal on Wednesday.

The Royals were tied with the Flames at 28 by halftime.

Wynford shot 26 of 54 and made 10 of 15 free throws, while Mansfield Christian shot 18 of 50 and made 11 of 20 free throws.

The Royals outscored the Flames 38-24 in the second half.

Wynford had 38 rebounds and 10 turnovers, while Mansfield Christian had 19 rebounds and six turnovers.

James Ort led the Royals with 18 points, while Braxton Tea added 13 points.

Brandon Mount led the Flames with 24 points.

Wynford improve to 14-9.

Crestline Bulldogs

The Crestline boys basketball team lost to Sandusky St. Mary Central Catholic 65-32 in the Division IV sectional semifinals on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs trailed the Panthers 31-13 at halftime.

Crestline shot 13 of 37 and made 4 of 8 free throws, while Sandusky shot 27 of 60 and made 9 of 19 free throws.

The Panthers took care of business in the second half outscoring the Bulldogs 34- 19.

Crestline had 29 rebounds and 32 turnovers, while Sandusky had 39 rebounds and 15 turnovers.

Zach Gregory led the Bulldogs with eight points, while Ty Clark added six.

Luca Mormina led the Panthers with 17 points.

Crestline concluded its season, winning just one game after defeating Bucyrus in January.
