Boys’ bowlers compete in sectionals Friday

The Cardington and Highland boys’ bowling teams advanced from sectionals to districts in action held at HP Lanes, Columbus on Friday, as did individuals from Gilead Christian and Northmor.

In the meet, the top 14 teams in the 28-squad meet moved on. Cardington took second to Jonathan Alder with a total of 3972 pins over three individual rounds and six Baker games. Highland was 12th with 3372 pins. Also, Gilead Christian took 19th with 3065 pins, Northmor was 22nd with 2970 and Mount Gilead placed 26th with 2661.

Leading the way for Cardington was John Wilhelm, who finished seventh with 626 pins. Blake Clapham had 609, while Jacob Long scored 594 and Austin Yake added 591. According to the Central District website, Austin Edgell and a substitute also rolled games.

Highland was topped by Joey Bennett, who rolled 525 in his three games. Ben Rinehart scored 485, Dana Hicks had 470 pins, Jordan Grizzle picked up 462 and Devin Schoellkopf added 460.

Northmor’s Devon Lilly was second-best of the individual qualifiers, rolling 621 for eighth place overall. Andrew Yarnell tallied 413, while Denver Lilly picked up 378. Gracelyn Stall, Samantha Grogg, Sarah Dudley and Hayle Lilly also rolled for the Knights.

Gilead Christian had a pair of qualifiers, as Samuel Stiffler placed with 573 pins and Seth Butterfield snared the final individual spot with 487. Brad Mohre rolled 423 and Daniel Ross finished with 381, while Garrett Jones had 344.

Mount Gilead’s Dylan Dixon scored 422 pins, while Damian Meyer had 399, Zachary Sellers finished with 375 and Hayden Dempsey contributed 373. Also, Jordan Levings scored 260.
