It wasn’t the way the Galion girls basketball team wanted to send off the seniors playing in their last home game with a loss to Jonathan Alder by a score of 56-30.
“We started out good and we were playing with emotion” said Galion Girls basktball head coach Nick Vukovich. “We tried to send our seniors off with a ‘W’.”
Seniors on the team are Robin Barnes, Dani Court, Taylor Valentine and Karrigan Winbigler.
Galion was hanging around with Jonathan Alder in the first quarter only being down by 9 with a score of 15-6, but the emotion ran out starting in the second quarter.
“We did an excellent job early on and when the second quarter hit, we didn’t look like we should have,” Vukovich said.
Jonathan Alder turned up the full court pressure and increased their lead by scoring 27 points in the second quarter. Alivia Milesky scored 10 of those points and finished the game with 17 points for Jonathan Alder who headed into halftime by a score of 42-11.
In the second half, Galion couldn’t overcome the big deficit that Jonathan Alder had on them and were still unable to get a the offense going. Galion did outscore Jonathan Alder 19-14 in the half, but still had to take the loss for the game.
“The key about that was when Jaime Ehrman went down with a knee injury as she is the main ball handler,” Vukovich said. “She’s fine, she played in the second half… we will ice it over the weekend and we will evaluate it on Monday.”
Other leading scorers for the game were Jonathan Alder’s McKenna Huff who scored 12 points and Galion’s Lauren Huggins who scored 10 points and Gracie Groves who scored seven points.
