Galion boys golfers reign as Sectional Champions

HURON — On Thursday, September 26, the Galion Tigers and Clear Fork Colts boys golf squads headed to Huron’s Sawmill Creek Golf Course to compete in the Division II, Northwest District Sectional Tournament.

The Galion boys would dominate the field, shooting a team score of 340 and winning the sectional crown, holding off the runner-ups from Perkins by six strokes. Bellevue would also advance to district play as a team, finishing third with a score of 368.

Matthew McMullen and Spencer Keller would shoot excellent rounds on the day for the Tigers en route to sharing medalist honors atop the 60-golfer field. McMullen turned in a 40 on the front-nine and a 40 on the back-nine to finish with an 80. Keller fired a 42 on the front and a 38 on the back to also turn in an 80 for the sectional champions.

Bronson Dalenberg tied for sixth overall in the field, shooting a 42 and a 43 for a total of 85. Nick McMullen tied for 23rd overall, shooting a 95 (48, 47) while Max Longwell wrapped the Galion roster with a 111 (54, 57), good for 54th.

For the Colts, they would not advance any golfers to next week’s district as they finished sixth in the field as a team with a 381.

Drew Lind led the way for Clear Fork, tying for 17th place with a 93 (46, 47). Jared Scott shot a 94 (45, 49) to finish tied for 20th and Caleb Dettmer finished tied for 23rd at 95 (50, 45). Zane Schultz (55, 44) turned in a 99 and finished tied for 32nd while Peter Cook (55, 50) shot 105 and finished 51st.

Division III Sectional Tournament

FINDLAY — Also in action in sectional play on Thursday were the members of the Colonel Crawford Eagles boys golf team as they headed to Sycamore Springs in Findlay for their Division III, Northwest District Sectional Tournament.

Crawford would see their collective season come to an end as they finished 13th overall as a team with a score of 438.

Van Buren won the crown, firing a team-low of 349 while Allen East garnered runner-up honors at 350. The final squad to advance from the sectional was the team from Bluffton, turning in a 357.

Scores for the Eagles on Thursday were: t46. Brennan Hamilton- 54, 52- 106; t51. Gavin Feichtner- 54, 56- 110; t56. Seth Lohr- 56, 55- 111; t56. Caleb Christman- 55, 56- 111 and 61. Cyler Hoepf- 61, 54- 115.
