Boys golf: Crawford Co. teams end season in sectionals

Bellevue, Shelby and Clear Fork have advanced to the Div. II district boys golf tournament after their performances on Thursday at Sawmill Creek Resort in Huron.

The Redmen won the sectional title by five strokes over Shelby. Bellevue finished with a combined score of 353. The Whippets posted a score of 358. Clear Fork was third after shooting 360.

The district tournament will be played next Thursday at Red Hawk Run Golf Club in Findlay.

Led by freshman Jack McElligott, Galion finished 12th in the team standings. The Tigers shot a collective 403. McElligott finished the day at 92.

Nick Kruger and Mitchell Dyer each shot 103. Colton Skaggs ended his round at 105. Brevin Owens carded 111.

Following are the team scores for the other schools involved in the sectional tournament: Port Clinton, 361; Clyde, 366; Ontario, 368; Vermilion, 379; Edison, 387; Upper Sandusky, 390; Oak Harbor, 397; Willard, 402.

Ottawa Hills won the team championship in the Div. III sectional played Thursday at Green Hills Golf Course in Clyde. Ottawa Hills won by a comfortable 13 strokes over Sandusky St. Mary Cen. Catholic (330). Cardinal Stritch Catholic came in third place, shooting 337. All three teams will advance to the district tournament next Thursday at Stone Ridge Golf Course in Bowling Green.

Michael Denner of Ottawa Hills won the match medal, shooting 68. He carded 35 on the front nine and finished with a score of 33 on the final nine holes.

The top three individuals to qualify for the district tournament were Christian Smith of Fremont St. Joseph Cen. Catholic and Woodmore teammates Austin Berkel and Mitchell Miller. Smith shot 80. Berkel carded 85 and Miller finished at 86.

Colonel Crawford placed 11th in the team standings after shooting 401. Nick Gremling led the Eagles with a round of 94. Isaak Sulser finished his day at 96. Eli Shultz shot 105. Austin Strouse carded 106. Jake Roesch shot 107.

Crestline finished 12th in the team table, shooting 456. Zac Hatfield topped the Bulldogs with a score of 105. Max Anatra shot 113. Gabe Lutz finished his day at 117. Ethan Tharp shot 121.

Mohawk won the Div. III sectional played Thursday at Valley View Golf Course. The Warriors, champions of the Northern 10 Athletic Conference, shot 344 to hold New London and Seneca East. New London finished at 344 and Seneca East carded 351. All three schools will advance to the district tournament next Thursday at Stone Ridge.

Brayden Dunlap of Mohawk won the match medal, shooting 79.

The top three individuals advancing from the Valley View sectional are St. Paul’s Jimmy Adelman (80) and Calvert teammates Matt Huffmon (85) and Bryan Kennedy (86). Kennedy defeated Keith Smith of Bucyrus in a playoff to determine the third individual.

Buckeye Central finished seventh in the team results with a score of 374. Dillon Weithman shot 92 to lead the Bucks. Following are the results for the rest of the Bucks: Tanner Zaebst, 93; Dalton Sheaffer, 93; Wyatt Delarber, 96; Josh Dentinger, 99.

Bucyrus placed eighth in the team standings, shooting 383. In addition to Smith’s round of 86, the Redmen posted the following results: Mason Light, 90; Keegan Sims, 92; Dakota Picou, 115; Braxen Spears, 128.

Wynford shot 473 and finished 15th in the team table. Kyle Koons led the Royals with a score of 100. Logen Sand shot 115. Mitchell Zaebst shot 125. Jack Reed shot 132.
