MOAC football: Buckeye Valley upends Galion, 38-32

Buckeye Valley quarterback Ben Spaulding scored on a 7-yard run with 50 seconds to play in the game to give the Barons a 38-32 victory over Galion in Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Red Division action on Friday.

The Barons (2-2, 1-0 MOAC) fell behind 13-0 after one quarter of play, but rallied in the second period and led 21-19 at the half. Galion again took the lead and held a 25-24 edge with one quarter to play. Buckeye Valley outscored the Tigers 14-7 in the final period to record the win.

Spaulding finished 17-of-26 for 341 yards passing and threw four touchdown passes, three to Gabe Miller and one to Nathan Bisang. Miller caught two 80-yard scoring passes and a 27-yarder, finishing with 225 yards on seven receptions.

Spaulding was also the Barons’ top ball carrier with 66 yards on 18 carries.

Sam Scharff kicked a 22-yard field goal for the Barons.

Galion’s Drake Barnett rushed for 230 yards on 23 carries and scored four touchdowns on runs of 9, 87, 44 and 8 yards. He also caught two passes for 78 yards, including a 53-yard scoring pass from Chase Cooke. Cooke completed 7-of-12 passes for 105 yards.

Galion (3-1, 0-1 MOAC), which suffered its first loss of the season, now embarks on an odyssey in which the Tigers will play four of the final six games of the season on the road. Galion travels to Jonathan Alder on Sept. 25 for a Week 5 match-up with the Pioneers. After that, the Tigers make the trip across Ohio 309 to face Marion Harding on Oct. 2.
