Boys golf: Galion places fourth at City Golf Tournament

Galion golfers shot a combined score of 345 to finish fourth at the City Golf Tournament held last Friday at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Mansfield.

Clear Fork won the team championship after shooting 298. Luke Watson of Clear Fork was the tournament medalist, finishing the day at 70.

Jack McElligott led the Tigers, shooting 81 on the 18-hole course. He carded 40 on the front nine and closed with a 41.

Mitchell Dyer ended his round at 86. Brevin Owens and Nick Kruger each finished at 89.

Colten Skaggs and Sam Rigdon each shot 95.

“Jack shooting 81 as a freshman is very encouraging,” said Galion head coach Bryce Lehman. “Mitch struggled in spots, but stuck to his game and shot 40 on his second nine. Brevin and Nick pulled out some great shots and stayed focused enough to to keep it below 90.

“We are improving each time out and the kids are working to get better,” Lehman added.

Ontario placed second in the team standings with a score of 317 at Twin Lakes. Madison finished third at 327. Mansfield Senior carded 373 to take fifth place and St. Peter’s finished with a score of 421.

Galion came in ninth place at the 20-team Jim Denos Norwalk Invitational played Saturday at Eagle Creek Golf Club. The Tigers shot 357 led by McElligott’s round of 85.

Owens and Kruger each shot 88. Kaleb Harsh finished his round at 96 and Dyer carded 103.

Galion has just one match on the schedule this week. The Tigers travel to Jonathan Alder on Tuesday. Match time is 4 p.m.
