Prep volleyball: Galion wins second MOAC match; Northmor falls to Elgin

Galion def. Fairbanks, 25-20, 25-23, 25-15

The Tigers (4-2, 2-2 MOAC) collected their second Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference win of 2015 on Thursday after sweeping Fairbanks (3-5, 1-3 MOAC).

Taylor Valentine and Marisa Gwinner led the Galion attack with Valentine recording 16 kills and Gwinner pounding down 13 kills. Kiki Staton added five kills and Chloe McCleese chipped in with three. Saterfield dished out 35 assists.

Gwinner led the Tigers with four blocks and Valentine added three. Staton, Bradlee Saterfield and Callie Wildenthaler had one block apiece.

Ashley Flowers topped Galion with 15 digs. Valentine finished with 13 digs and Wildenthaler and Dusty Thomas added 10 each.

Galion’s ball handling and serve receive were solid for the second consecutive match. The Tigers recorded just three ball-handling errors in 121 attempts, and were 48-of-52 on serve receive.

Galion plays at the Shelby Invitational on Saturday. Matches begin at 10 a.m.

Fairbanks travels to North Union on Tuesday.

Elgin def. Northmor, 25-21, 25-23, 18-25, 25-23

Tailor Wolf and Josi Wolf each had eight kills to lead the Comets (4-1, 3-1 MOAC) to the win. Meredith Cocherl had seven kills, and Brianna Applefeller and Alyssa Rankin finished with four each. Krosbi Clark had three kills. Elgin’s Kadi Vermilion finished with 14 assists and Miranda Haas added 12.

Tailor Wolf and Applefeller each finished with 11 digs. Haas and Rankin had five apiece. Vermilion and Makenzee Runda had four each.

Vermilion and Applefeller each had three aces. Tailor Wolf had two aces.

Josi Wolf finished with a match-best six blocks. Tailor Wolf and Cocherl had three each.

Northmor’s Karlee Carroll led all attackers with 10 kills. Jordyn Zoll added eight kills. Mikayla Briggs and Anna Donner had seven kills each. Hope Miracle added four kills. Zoll handed out a match-high 25 assists and Erica McElvain had 12 assists.

Carroll led Northmor (6-4, 2-2 MOAC) with 27 digs and Cristianna Boggs had 20. Lindsey Wiseman finished with 16 digs. Zoll and Donner had 14 each. McElvain had 10 digs.

Donner, Carroll and Zoll recorded two aces each.

Briggs led the Knights with three blocks. Miracle had two blocks and Zoll had one block.

Northmor plays host to East Knox on Tuesday.

Elgin plays at Ridgedale on Saturday.
