Beatty and Tucker earn Crossroads League Player of the Week honors

Grace Tucker (SO/Nampa, ID) and Marlowe Beatty (SR/Dalton, Ohio) of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University volleyball team both earned Crossroads League Player of the Week honors when the awards were announced Monday by the league office.

Beatty, a junior defensive specialist from Dalton, Ohio, was named this week’s Crossroads League Defender of the Week for her performance against Ohio Christian University last Tuesday. Beatty picked up right where she left off last season and already has 71 digs to start the 2015 season. Beatty recorded 23 digs and had 13 successful reception attempts against Ohio Christian in a 3-0 win.

Tucker, a sophomore outside hitter from Nampa, Idaho, was selected as the Attacker of the Week after leading MVNU with seven kills and a .545 attack percentage in the 3-0 win at Ohio Christian. Tucker also had eight assists and was very active on defense with five digs to go along with a solo block and block assist. Tucker has 17 kills on the season and her attack percentage through the first five matches stands at .464.

The Lady Cougars, who are 5-0 to start the season will play their home opener on Wednesday in Ariel Arena against Grace College (Ind.) at 7:00 PM. The contest will also be the first Crossroads League match of the season for MVNU.
