Prep volleyball: Northmor tops Bucyrus in five sets

Northmor rallied from a two sets to one deficit to defeat Bucyrus in five sets in non-league volleyball action on Tuesday.

The Lady Redmen won the opening set, 25-23, but the Lady Knights took the second set, 25-17. Bucyrus claimed the third set, 25-19. Northmor evened the match with a 25-23 win in the fourth set, and then claimed its second win of the season with a 15-7 victory in the fifth set.

Mikayla Briggs and Hope Miracle each had nine kills to lead the Lady Knights. Anna Donner added seven kills. Briggs was 30-for-32 hitting. Miracle finished 23-of-25 and Donner was 29-for-31. Karlee Carroll had six kills and Rayanna Loyer added four kills.

Jordyn Zoll finished with 22 assists and 11 digs. Erica McElvain added 16 assists. Lindsey Wiseman led Northmor with 31 digs. Carroll had 22. Cristianna Boggs added 13 digs.

Briggs topped the Lady Knights with five blocks and Miracle added two. Donner and Zoll had one block apiece.

Northmor’s junior varsity team defeated Bucyrus in two sets, 25-9 and 25-22.

The Lady Knights (2-2) are back in action on Thursday against Ontario at the O-Rena. Varsity match time is 6:30 p.m. The JV match starts at 5 p.m.

Northmor opens Mid Ohio Athletic Conference Blue Division play on Aug. 31 with a home match against Mount Gilead. The JV match starts at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity match at 7 p.m.

Bucyrus (0-2) plays at Crestline on Thursday. Match time is 5:30 p.m.

The Lady Redmen play host to Riverdale on Saturday at 10 a.m.
