A veteran Riverdale squad knocked off Colonel Crawford in four games on Monday at Morrison Gym. The Lady Falcons dropped the first game to the Lady Eagles, 25-21, then rebounded to win the next three games, 25-21, 25-22, 25-20.

Lady Eagles head coach Amber Christy attributed her team’s defeat in the back and forth affair in part to its youthfulness. Colonel Crawford is fielding a squad that features two seniors, three juniors, four sophomores and a freshman.

“We’re very young and we’re going to battle all season long,” Christy said. “I think we were ahead in about every game and we just couldn’t find a way to finish. Youth plays a role in that. We have to find a way to step up and get the job done. We’ll find a way and get better. We’ll make it happen.”

Christy also said that unforced errors played a key role in the loss.

“Some of my better servers were putting balls in the net,” Christy said. “We just have to grow up and mature and learn how to do things the right way. We played a team tonight that had five starting seniors on it.”

Junior Sam Mutchler had nine kills and 15 digs for the Lady Eagles (0-1). Senior Jada Klingenberger recorded 20 digs. Freshman Danielle Horsley finished with 29 assists.

No statistics for Riverdale (1-0) were available.
