Boys golf: Tigers 3rd at River Valley tri-match

Galion finished third in a battle against two of the heavyweights in Mid Ohio Athletic Conference boys golf on Wednesday at Whetstone Golf Course in Caledonia.

The Tigers finished with a round of 181. Host River Valley won the match after carding 155 and Buckeye Valley placed second with a score of 163.

Nick Kruger paced four Galion players who shot in the 40s by carding a round of 42. That was his career best round.

Jack McElligott finished at 43 while Brevin Owens and Kaleb Harsh each shot 48. Mitchell Dyer and Colten Skaggs both turned in a round of 51.

“We played pretty good against the top two teams in the league,” said Galion head coach Bryce Lehman. “Four scores in the 40s again is a great thing.”

River Valley also won the junior varsity match with a score of 211. Buckeye Valley shot 223 and Galion finished with a round of 228.

Sam Rigdon had the best score of the day for the Tigers’ JV squad, finishing at 54. Aaron Stewart carded a score of 56 and Aaron Barnhart came in at 58. Markis Lawson ended his day at 59 and Jacob Lear turned in a score of 66.

The Tigers’ next three matches will be played against MOAC competitors at the Galion Country Club. The orange and blue entertains Pleasant on Thursday. A tri-match with River Valley and Jonathan Alder is scheduled for Aug. 26 and Buckeye Valley pays a visit on Aug. 27. Tee time for all matches is 4 p.m.
