Eagles earn a pair of weekend wins on the hardwood

BUCYRUS — After their victory at home on Friday, December 15, the Colonel Crawford Eagles boys basketball team was back at it again in Northern-10 Athletic Conference action on Saturday.

This time, it was a trip to Wynford to clash with the Royals and another victory for the Eagles; 76-47. Crawford improved to 4-1 overall with the win and are undefeated in conference play at 3-0. Wynford drops to 3-1 with the loss and are 2-1 within the N-10.

Gavin Feichtner recorded a double-double in the contest Saturday, leading the Eagles scoring attack with 15 points while grabbing 12 rebounds. Jordan Fenner and Cam McCreary dropped in 13 points apiece and Reis Walker also hit double digits with 12 points in the win. Harley Shaum scored nine, Brody Martin had six and Hayden Bute and Chase Walker rounded out the offense for Crawford, scoring four points apiece. McCreary led the way in assists with eight.

Colonel Crawford got out of the gate fast and wrapped the first quarter holding a 27-9 lead. That lead would continue to grow as the Eagles outscored the Royals in the second; 21-9 to take the 48-18 advantage at half time. Wynford would outscore the visitors in the second half (29-28) but the deficit proved too much as Crawford landed their fourth win of the season.

Team stats for the two squads were: Eagles- 22/35 (63%) from the interior, 6/19 (32%) from the perimeter, 40 total rebounds, 15 assists and 10 turnovers; Royals- 18/40 (45%) from the interior, 2/14 (14%) from the perimieter, 25 total rebounds, 6 assists and 10 turnovers; Cole Heinlen lead Wynford in scoring with 20 points.

Crawford will host the Seneca East Tigers in N-10 play at Mac Morrison Gymnasium on Thursday, December 21.

Steve Smith Holiday Hoops Classic information

On Saturday, December 23, 2017, the Eagles will be traveling to Wooster College to play in the Steve Smith Holiday Hoops Classic. Presale tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults. All tickets at the gate will be $6 for students and $8 for adults. The Colonel Crawford Athletic Department will receive a portion of presale tickets. Tickets will be on sale in the Colonel Crawford High School office until Wednesday, December 20, 2017 during school hours. One ticket gets you in to all the games played that day. If you have any questions, please contact the athletic department.

The list of games being played that day are as follows: 12 p.m. Rittman vs. Tuslaw; 1:45 p.m. Orrville vs. Medina Buckeye; 3:30 p.m. Berlin Hiland vs. Lake Catholic; 5:15 p.m. Triway vs. Smithville; 7 p.m. Northwestern vs. Colonel Crawford and 8:45 p.m. Wooster vs. Archbishop Hoban.

Colonel Crawford 73, Mohawk 67

NORTH ROBINSON — The Eagles hosted conference foe, the Mohawk Warriors on Friday, December 15 and would come away with the narrow, 73-67 victory.

In this contest, Shaum scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Eagles in both of those respective categories. Fenner poured in 17 points on the evening and McCreary earned a double-double with 13 points while dishing out 10 assists. Martin finished in double figures with 10 points, Bute chipped in seven, R. Walker chimed in with four and Feichtner rounded out the offense with three points.

The score was close going into halftime with Crawford holding the 38-35 advantage after both teams scored 23 in the second quarter. The Eagles edged the Warriors in third quarter scoring (13-11) and in the fourth as well (22-21) to escape with the “W”.

Team stats for both squads were: Crawford- 17/26 (65%) from the inside, 9/19 (47%) from the outside, 22 total rebounds, 18 assists and 9 turnovers; Mohawk- 20/33 (61%) from the inside, 7/13 (54%) from the outside, 13 total rebounds, 14 assists and 9 turnovers; Zach Hayman went off for the visiting Warriors with 31 points on Friday night in the loss.
