NORTH ROBINSON — After two road wins in a row, the Colonel Crawford Eagles football squad played host to the streaking Lucas Cubs on Friday night in a non-conference clash.

The Eagles and Cubs would battle back and forth in a competitive game but Lucas would prevail by a final of 28-21. With the loss, Crawford drops to 3-5 overall and remain 1-4 within the Northern-10 Athletic Conference.

Crawford’s defense would hold Lucas’ high-powered offense to just seven points in the first quarter while the Eagles’ “O” put up one score themselves. In the second, the Cubs would manage a 14-spot on the board to Crawford’s seven in what would be the eventual difference in the ball game. Both teams tacked on a score in the third before playing to a scoreless fourth as Lucas recorded the win to improve to 7-1 on the season.

Hayden Bute finished the game at 11/17 through the air, racking up 141 yards passing while tossing a touchdown and an interception. Bute also picked up 68 yards on 15 carries for the home team but fumbled twice, losing one.

Kaleb Landin was Bute’s primary receiver, gaining 79 yards on four catches and one score. Owin Seevers had six receptions on the evening, equating to 52 yards. Kyle Shope snagged one catch for 10 yards to wrap the Eagles’ air attack.

On the ground, it was once again Trevor Shawber leading all rushers, picking up 154 yards on 34 carries while posting two touchdowns. Dylan Knisley carried the ball twice for nine yards against the Cubs.

Spencer Mutchler was 3/3 on the night on extra-point attempts but did miss a 22-yard field goal in the contest.

Lucas picked up 267 yards of total offense against Crawford Friday. The Cubs ran 45 running plays to amass 226 yards and three touchdowns. Through the air, Lucas was just 2/5 for 41 yards. The fourth Cubs’ touchdown came via an 82-yard kick-off return.

Other N-10 scores on Friday were: Bucyrus (1-7, 1-5) 14 and Mohawk (6-2, 4-2) 42; Seneca East (6-1, 4-1) 14 and Wynford (6-2, 5-0) 31; Buckeye Central (0-8, 0-5) 12 and Upper Sandusky (3-5, 2-3) 28; Carey (6-1, 4-1) is on the road against West Middlesex (PA) in non-conference action on Saturday, Oct. 14.

Colonel Crawford will host the winless Buckeye Central Bucks on Friday, Oct. 20 for their annual homecoming game.
