LUCAS — In their final non-league contest, the Northmor Golden Knights headed to Lucas to take on the hosting Cubs.

Northmor will head into their first year in the Knox-Morrow Athletic Conference with a 3-0 record after defeating the Cubs; 26-8.

The Knights offense was once again anchor by the play of their senior quarterback, Meechie Johnson.

Meechie has now eclipsed 200 yards rushing in all three of Northmor’s games after breaking out for 296 yards on 17 carries on Friday. Johnson scored three of the four Knights’ touchdowns in the process. Johnson completed just 1/7 passes for 30 yards to Kyle Kegley on the evening. Kegley was 2/2 on his PAT attempts.

The other touchdown against Lucas came on a one-yard run from Ryland Thomas, his only carry of the game. Conan Becker added to the Northmor ground assault with 83 yards on 18 carries.

Lucas avoided the shutout by scoring for the first time with just 39 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. The Cubs would tack on a two-point conversion for their seventh and eighth points.

Northmor gained a total of 413 yards against the Cubs’ defense while Lucas managed just 220 total yards of offense.

Fredericktown will head to Galion to take on the Knights in the KMAC opener on Friday, September 15.
