GALION — The Galion Tigers golf team welcomed the Ontario Warriors to the Sycamore Creek Golf Course in town on Wednesday, August 30 for a Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference dual match.

Galion upended the new conference foe in one of their closest matches of the season; 164-174. With this victory, the Tigers find themselves still undefeated overall and in conference play at 7-0.

“Tonight was a huge match,” states Galion head coach Bryce Lehman. “My guys were extremely focused and handled everything in this match with class and level heads. It is the first time in five years the golf team has started undefeated and these six young men are keeping everything in check. They are not looking too far ahead and realize they have to take each match seriously and play their best each night,” Lehman continued.

The Tigers had co-medalist for the match against Ontario on Wednesday. Spencer Keller and Jack McElligott both fired nine hole scores of 39 to lead the way for the home team. Rounding out the kept scores for Galion were Matthew McMullen and Kaleb Harsh, shooting a 42 and a 44, respectively. Matt Kingseed finished the day with a 45 while teammate Mitch Dyer carded a 46.

“I am very proud of how they are playing as a team and I am also proud of their course management and demeanor,” Lehman said in an email.

Galion looks to keep the season-opening undefeated streak alive on Thursday when they travel to Marion Country Club for a dual match with MOAC rival, the Pleasant Spartans.
