Lady Tigers edged at home

GALION — Fresh off their first victory in program history and first home win, the Galion Lady Tigers soccer team welcomed the Pleasant Lady Spartans to town to compete in Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference action.

The Lady Tigers played the visitors close but in the end, it was a 1-0 victory for Pleasant. With the loss, Galion drops to 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in MOAC play.

Drucilla Singer had another good game as the goalkeeper for the Lady Tigers, allowing just the one goal while recording 17 total saves.

Galion’s offense managed just two shots on goal in the first 40-minute frame but was able to get off seven in the second half, all stopped by the Lady Spartans’ goalkeeper.

“I was really impressed with our center back pairing of Emily Saunders and Katie McDonald. They have really started to work well together,” added Galion’s head coach Eric Palmer.

On Thursday, August 31, the Lady Tigers will head to Ashland to meet up with the Lady Cougars of Crestview.

Pleasant “D” shuts out Tigers

MARION — While the Galion girls soccer squad hosted the Pleasant girls team, the Spartans and the Tigers met up in Marion to clash in MOAC play.

Throughout the contest, Galion managed just four shots on goal (Quinn Boland, Luke Eisnaugle, Kyle Bauer and Jason Guthridge) and were blanked by the Spartans; 7-0.

Stephen Thompson recorded 15 saves on the night while allowing the seven goals in the Spartans’ offensive ambush.

“We lost to a pretty skilled Pleasant team,” states Galion head coach John Stewart. He continues, “the new-this-year guys are coming along and the freshmen are beginning to mature into their roles…good things ahead, stay tuned.”

Galion will look to continue that growing process with their next match on the road against the Upper Sandusky Rams on Tuesday, September 5.
