MONROEVILLE — The 2017 season began for the Crestline Bulldogs football team Friday night with a road trip to Monroeville to clash with the Eagles.

Crestline is now 0-1 on the season, which they are playing as an independent, after falling to the host Monroeville; 47-18.

The Eagles jumped out on the ‘Dogs early and often while Crestline couldn’t seem to find a rhythm on offense. Monroeville posted 20 points in the first quarter and 20 points again in the second to take a lopsided 40-0 lead into halftime.

Although the Bulldogs began the game sluggish, things started to piece together a bit in the third as they put up 12 points on the scoreboard while the Eagles added another seven to make the contest 47-12. Crestline would manage one more touchdown in the fourth but in the end found themselves with the opening night defeat.

Junior Ty Clark got his first start at quarterback for Crestline, replacing the graduated JR Wolfe. Clark finished the game 9/14 on his pass attempts for 97 yards, one touchdown and one interception. On the ground, Clark carried the ball three times for 11 yards. On defense, Ty, along with his brother Ethan Clark, recorded fumble recoveries for the visitors.

Fellow junior Davon Triplett was the main target for Ty, catching three passes for 116 yards and a touchdown. Caleb Moore recorded 33 yards on two catches and Jaden Stewart caught a pass for eight yards.

Other rushing statistics for the ‘Dogs: Dakota Wireman- 11 carries, 78 yards, TD and Moore- 5 carries, 30 yards, TD.

Crestline will look to get on the winning track next Friday, September 1 when they travel to meet up with the Eagles of Grove City Christian High School.
