Northmor runners hold invitational

GALION — On Monday afternoon, Northmor High School played host to a cross country invitational that featured 13 teams on the boys side and nine teams on the girls side.

With very cooperative weather, the Golden Knights faired well in both sides of the competition with the girls taking second overall and the boys, third.

The Fredericktown Lady Freddies were the winners for the invite on the girls side of things with Northmor, as mentioned above, finishing as the runner-up. Winning the race from the Highland Lady Fighting Scots was Sophia Thompson, with a time of 20:29.45.

Other placements for the invite were: 3. Buckeye Valley; 4. North Union; 5. Highland; 6. Columbus School for Girls; 7. Buckeye Central; 8. Village Academy and 9. Bucyrus.

Top finisher from the Knights was Jessica Duryea. Duryea took seventh overall with a finishing time of 21:44.65. Maddie Jordan and Samantha Peters also cracked the top 10 for the Lady Knights at ninth and tenth, respectively. Jordan posted a time of 22:21.62 and Peters crossed the finish line in 22:29.67.

Other runners in action on Monday from Northmor were: Brooke Bennett, 23:16.68; Julia Kanagy, 23:19.68; Julianna Ditullio, 23:59.33; Sabrina Kelley, 24:59.23; Samantha Grogg, 25:25.81; Olivia Goodson, 26:03.20; Kristie Wright, 27:07.95; Carolyn McGaulley, 27:17.16; Kenadie Hart, 30:02.31; Francesa Cutrupi, 30:35.71 and Tori Carver, 32:52.00. Crestline’s Caitlin Harley finished with a time of 24:34.23, good for 40th overall.

For the boys, the winner of the event was also Fredericktown with Gavin Shindeldecker from Lucas winning the individual title with a time of 17:42.43.

Rounding out the teams in the boys field were: 2. North Union; 3. NORTHMOR; 4. Highland; 5. Buckeye Valley; 6. Elgin; 7. East Knox; 8. Bucyrus; 9. Village Academy; 10. Lucas; 11. Clear Fork; 12. Pleasant and 13. Buckeye Central.

Austin Amens was Northmor’s only top 10 finisher, crossing the finish line in 18:23.12 and taking seventh overall for the Knights.

Also running in their home invite for the boys squad were: BJ White, 19:24.81; Ryan Bentley, 19:36.30; Gavin Keen, 19:40.53; Kaleb Hart, 20:38.13; Alec Moore, 20:47.89; Manny Heilman, 20:54.22; Josh Craner, 21:36.05; Mostyn Evans, 21:54.80; Chase Hoover, 22:04.03; Kyle Price, 22:36.67; Cooper Keen, 22:40.80; Sam Weaver, 22:52.50; Kolton Hart, 23:10.00; Austin Lewis, 23:37.56 and Zach Govoni, 24:35.44. Crestline’s Gavin Balliett ran the invite with a time of 21:40.02 and Wesley Patrick finished in 32:04.43.

Northmor and Crestline will be in action again on Saturday, August 26 at the Early Bird Invite hosted by the Colonel Crawford cross country teams.
