Adjustments and growth will fuel Lady ‘Dogs

CRESTLINE — In 2016, the Crestline Lady Bulldogs volleyball team took to the courts under a brand new coach. Megan Eshelman is back as the head coach and will be joined by her staff of Stacie Dalenberg, April Phillips and Whitney Booth.

Crestline was 10-12 in 2016 and finished at 5-7 in the Mid-Buckeye Conference.

“With last year being my first year taking over the program, I was very blessed to be able to come into the program with some talented athletes,” Eshelman said.

As for year number two?

“I am very excited for the upcoming year,” she said. “Our program is continuing to grow more and more. But we lost four seniors last year to graduation: our two middle hitters, our main setter and a key defensive player.”

Even with having to adjust to the loses, Crestline returns key talent.

Seniors Lydia Tadda, Michaela Jeffrey and Alex Miller will lead the Lady ‘Dogs in ‘17. Lydia Tadda and Michaela Jeffrey are both going for their fourth varsity letter this season and Miller is working toward No. 3. Eshelman will also have a strong group of underclassmen to aide in the improvement of the program in Lauryn Tadda, Kennedy Moore and Hannah Delong. Other returning letter winners are: Brianna Briggs (2), Desi Naveja (2), Alandra Tesso (1) and Kiana Sebastian (1).

Looking ahead to the season and MBC play, the goals from last year continue over into 2017.

“Our program is growing and we are getting the right girls in that want to see our program excel. My girls are working hard and coming together to fill the holes on offense and defense,” Eshelman said. “I feel that we will be able to finish strong in our league. There are some strong teams, but I’m confident that our girls will be able to compete.”

Regular season action begins for Crestline on Monday, Aug. 21 at home against Wynford. Their first MBC match will occur on Tuesday, Aug. 29 at Mansfield Christian. The regular season is set to wrap Oct. 14, at home vs. Hardin Northern.
