Boys advance two to state meet

TIFFIN — The Colonel Crawford Eagles boys track team was in competition in just two events on Friday at Tiffin Columbian High School.

Looking back on Wednesday’s action, the Eagles had their 4×800-meter relay team of Brad Bauer, Braxton James, Nick Studer and Chad Johnson finish sixth overall. The 4×100 relay team failed to qualify for finals and the 4×400 teams did not register a time. In the field, Jaret Tinkey took 12th in the discus with a throw of 143’7”.

Fast forwarding to Friday, Crawford crowned a regional champion and a runner-up in the 3200-meter run. Chad Johnson, who decided not to run in the 1600, won the event with a new Region X record time of 9:15.30. Johnson owned the previous mark that he set last year at 9:26.96. Coming in behind Johnson was teammate Brad Bauer. Bauer crossed the finish line to join Johnson at state next week with a time of 9:47.13.

Also competing for the boys on the day was Harley Shaum in the high jump. Shaum cleared a height of 5’10” to finish 10th overall.

Lady Eagles relay team set for state

LANCASTER — On Wednesday, Sam Mutchler qualified for state with a fourth place finish in the high jump for Crawford. The 4×800-meter relay team finished 10th overall, Kirsten Vehrs quailfied for the finals in the 100-meter hurdles, as did the 4×100 relay team.

Friday’s action saw the 4×100 relay team of Pierce Krassow, Vehrs, Mutchler and Reegan Goyer finishing third overall to earn a state berth at 51.22.

In other action for the Lady Eagles, Vehrs finished seventh in the 100-hurdles with a time of 16.46. Courtney Britt finished eighth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:25.33. The distance duo of Anna Reffey and Emily Kemper finished the 3200 in seventh and ninth, respectively. Reffey crossed the line in 11:39.41 and Kemper in 11:55.77. Jilliane Gregg finished in 10th place in the discus with a throw of 109’9”.

Johnson, Bauer, Mutchler, Krassow and Goyer will now head to Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium next Friday and Saturday to compete for state honors.
