Galion, Northmor athletes earn MOAC honors

GALION — The all-conference teams, along with the season’s baseball stats have been finalized for the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Blue and Red Divisions. This marks the final season that the MOAC will be divided into two separate divisions.

BASEBALL

Five Galion players earned all-conference nods for the 2017 baseball season. The Tigers won a sectional championship on their home field, but were defeated in the regional semi-finals by Margaretta.

First Team: Garrett Kuns and Mac Spears; Second Team: Will Donahue and Ryan Talbott; Honorable Mention: Aaron Barnhart

Kuns lead the MOAC in hits this season with 36 in 83 at bats, which also put him amongst league leaders in batting average at .434. Talbott and Spears also were on the top-hits list with 31 and 30, respectively. Kuns and Spears made the list for runs batted in as well with 23 and 21, respectively. Wrapping up the statistical categories, Kuns reached the leader board with 11 stolen bases and as one of the league’s top pitchers with a 2.29 earned run average. Donahue and Cameron Payne joined Kuns on the ERA list as well. Donahue had the eighth lowest ERA at 1.50 and Payne rounded out the list with a 2.33 ERA.

In the Blue Division, the Northmor Golden Knights had three players earn all-conference honors.

First Team: Wyatt Reeder; Second Team: Nate Hall; Honorable Mention: Mostyn Evans

Hall made the list for slugging percentage leaders in the MOAC with .536 and RBI with 22. Reeder stole 12 bases throughout the season to make his way on to the top steals leaders.

SOFTBALL

Both the Galion Lady Tigers and Northmor Lady Golden Knights finished the season with four players on their respective divisions all-conference lists.

Galion made a post-season push that ended with a district finals defeat at the hands of Colonel Crawford.

First Team: Nevaeh Clark and Gabby Kaple; Second Team: Madelyn Thomas; Honorable Mention: Emily Sedmak

Northmor’s post-season run ended quickly but the regular season provided many opportunities for the Lady Knights to shine.

First Team: Cristianna Boggs and Lydia Farley; Second Team: Lily Tate; Honorable Mention: Aly Blunk

Congratulations to all of the student athletes for earning nods as the best within their conference and divisions!
